PARIS, July 13 (Hina) - Damir Levacic, a French chess-player of Croat descent, beat the world record in uninterrupted chess play in Cannes on Monday. Levacic started the game on Friday and completed it after 81 hours and ten minutes,
after having played with a total of 322 opponents. Before yesterday's game, the world record in uninterrupted chess play was held by Jacques Negro from Nice, who in 1976 played 256 games in a row against different opponents during 80 hours. Levacic is the president of the Cannes club of chess-players. His match was organised within the International Summer Games which are traditionally held in Cannes. The Croat played his 322-game 'marathon' against three international masters, several renown French chess-players, and numerous amateur players, including several well-know French athletes.
