According the citation, the Umag town council decided to proclaim
Muster Umag's honorary citizen as he had showed that he was a proven
friend of Croatia and Umag and promoted the country's tourism
during hard times in the Homeland War.
Muster won the third, fourth and sixth ATP tennis tournament in Umag
which has been organising 'the ATP Tour Croatia Open' since 1990.
In 1993, he donated 30,000 German marks, which he earned at the Umag
contest, to a humanitarian foundation for Croatia.
During Sunday's ceremony, this Austrian sportsman said he was proud
of being proclaimed a honorary citizen of Umag.
He praised Umag for the excellent organisation of the tennis
contest.
He added that his connections with this Istrian resort dated back to
his childhood when he had gone with his parents to Umag during
summer holidays.
