HVAR, July 10 (Hina) - Msgr. Nikola Eterovic on Saturday was consecrated as a bishop in the Cathedral in Hvar in presence of many religious dignitaries from Croatia, Vatican, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Ukraine, as
well as of high-ranking state officials. On May 22, Pope John Paul II appointed Msgr. Eterovic as Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine and the breveted Bishop of Sisak.
HVAR, July 10 (Hina) - Msgr. Nikola Eterovic on Saturday was
consecrated as a bishop in the Cathedral in Hvar in presence of many
religious dignitaries from Croatia, Vatican, Bosnia-Herzegovina,
Macedonia, Montenegro and Ukraine, as well as of high-ranking state
officials.
On May 22, Pope John Paul II appointed Msgr. Eterovic as Apostolic
Nuncio in Ukraine and the breveted Bishop of Sisak. #L#
In the same cathedral of St. Stephan, Eterovic, born on 20 January
1951 in Pucisce on the island of Brac, became a priest 22 years ago.
Saturday's ceremony was led by Holy See's State Secretary, Cardinal
Angelo Sodano, along with Split Archbishop Ante Juric and Hvar
Bishop Slobodan Stambuk.
By conveying the Pope's blessing to new Bishop and all who gathered
in Hvar's cathedral, Cardinal Sodano said Pope John Paul II had
entrusted a son of Croatia soil with an important task adding that
Croatia was a country that had received much from the Church as well
as given much to the Church.
Cardinal Sodano is heading a 23-member delegation of Vatican on a
visit to Split-Makarska Archdiocese and for the ceremony of the
consecreation of Msgr. Eterovic as a bishop.
Present at the solemn Mass were Eterovic's mother and other members
of his family, Croatian President Franjo Tudjman's envoy,
Nedjeljko Mihanovic, Minister Jure Radic and Croatian Ambassador
to Rome, Davorin Rudolf.
