SPLIT SPLIT, July 9 (Hina) - A Catholic Faculty of Theology was officially established as part of the University of Split in the southern Croatian port on Friday. The faculty was formed by merging the High School of Theology from
Split and the Franciscan Theology from nearby Makarska. Both institutions have been educating priests for 300 years.

An agreement on the establishment of the faculty, the second of its
kind in Croatia, was signed by its chancellor and Split-Makarska
Archbishop Msgr. Ante Juric and University of Split rector Ivo
Babic.
The agreement is based on a Holy See-Croatian agreement on
cooperation in education and culture.
With consent from the Holy See and the Croatian Bishops' Conference
(HBK), it was co-signed by Croatian Science Minister Milena Zic-
Fuchs, the apostolic nuncio to Croatia, Msgr Giluio Einaudi, and
HBK president Msgr Josip Bozanic.
