ZAGREB, June 27 (Hina) - The "Opposition Six" 'most strongly'
condemns the decision of the Zagreb County Court to issue a warrant
for the search of the apartment of "Nacional" weekly editor-in-
chief Ivo Pukanic.
The Croatian People's Party (HNS), Croatian Social-Liberal Party
(HSLS), Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Istrian Democratic
Assembly (IDS), Liberal Party (LS) and the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) demand from the Justice Minister and the Minister of Interior
to most urgently inform parliamentary parties and the Croatian
National Sabor about the case and the course of the investigation,
read a statement released by the six Opposition parties on Saturday
night.
"As the warrant for the search of Pukanic's apartment states,
documents on the tapping of the phones of Croatian citizens and high
state officials are authentic. Accordingly, "Nacional" has not
published sensationalist fabrications aimed at vilifying state
services", said the statement, signed by the Opposition Six
coordinator and HNS president Radimir Cacic.
The six parties have been insisting for some time that a public
debate be opened and a parliamentary commission of inquiry be
formed with the aim of clarifying the "extremely worrying
situation" regarding the activities of secret services in Croatia,
the statement read.
The parties believe the questioning of the "Nacional" weekly
editor-in-chief ahead of the agreement between the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Opposition Six on initiating such a
parliamentary debate is an attempt to "conceal rather than reveal
the truth", the statement concluded.
