POLICE COMMENT ON PROTEST OF PEASANTS

ZAGREB, June 26 (Hina) - Participants of Saturday's protests organised by the Croatian Peasants' Alliance, damaged one police vehicle, and a police officer has been lightly injured, Interior Ministry's Public Relations Office reported Saturday afternoon. "In the village of Sveti Djuradj, in the Donji Miholjac municipality, a minor inflicted upon himself a light injury," the statement, signed by the Office's commissioner, Slavko Rako, said. A police officer managed to avoid injury at the last moment by jumping aside in front of a tractor which was driving at him. The statement said a group of protesters pulled down a protective fence on a section of a motorway. Police did not use force at any time, the Office stressed. The Interior Ministry announced to file charges against the organisers of the protest and a part of the participants of the unauthorised rally and traffic blockages, stressing the Croatian Peasants' Alliance had organised protest rallies in several counties, contrary to provisions of the Law on Public Gathering the Law on Road Traffic Safety, Law on public Roads and Croatian Criminal Law.
