Friday took part in the 2nd Conference of Economy Ministers of the
Danubian Countries, which is being held in the Austrian town of
Duernstein.
The conference, which focuses on the economic cooperation between
the Danubian countries, is attended by representatives of 13
countries and countries of the South-East European Cooperation
Initiative.
On Friday morning, the session discussed the exchange of goods and
services, the improvement of traffic infrastructure, further
development of tourism and the expansion of the European Union, the
Croatian Economy Ministry said in a statement.
During a discussion on the expansion of the European Union, Porges
said Croatia supported the Stability Pact in the making of which it
had actively participated. He expressed belief that the EU would
have an individual approach to every country in talks on the
agreement on stabilisation and admission.
Speaking about the economic cooperation of the Danubian countries,
Porges suggested that multilateral financial assistance be
approved for those projects which are important for the majority of
Danubian countries and not only for national economies.
Porges stressed the importance of the fifth, tenth and eighth
traffic corridor, the modernisation of railways, the re-
establishment of navigation on the Danube, the development of oil
and gas trunk lines, as well as of cooperation between similar
economic subjects in the fields of gas and oil production.
