Director of the Croatian Restoration Institute, Ferdinand Meder, said at the end of 1991, in the heat of armed aggression on Croatia, Francesca von Habsburg got insight into the destruction of Croatian cultural heritage by touring Croatia up to the first combat lines. She initiated a number of conferences, actions of informing the world public and direct assistance in the protection and restoration of war-damaged and endangered cultural heritage in Croatia.
