DJAKOVO DJAKOVO, June 6 (Hina) - A traditional commemoration for the victims of the Holocaust was held at the Jewish Cemetery in Djakovo, eastern Croatia, on Sunday. The commemoration was organised by the Osijek Jewish Municipality.
During 1941 and 1942, 600 people were killed in a labour camp in Djakovo, through which thousands of Jewish women, children, and the elderly, mainly from Bosnia, passed. The Djakovo Jewish Cemetery has preserved and marked the names of all the victims, which is unique in the world. Attending today's commemoration were representatives of Jewish communities from Osijek, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Slavonski Brod, and Vinkovci. Those from Osijek, Zagreb, and Sarajevo, and Djakovo mayor Darko Vrtaric laid wreaths and remembered all the victims of the Holocaust.
