ZAGREB, May 28 (Hina) - Several hundred members of the Croatian
Trade Union of Post and Telecommunications (HSPT) gathered in Ban
Jelacic square in downtown Zagreb on Friday morning protesting
against a government bill on the privatisation of the Croatian
Telecommunications (HT) company.
The HSPT and the Republic Trade Union of Croatian Posts and
Telecommunications Workers today also organised a day-long
strike.
Postal services will be limited during the strike, while
telecommunications will operate regularly, a member of the
strikers committee, Stanko Sraga, told Hina.
The trade unions demand that the government retain the control
package of HT shares, and that former and current employees be
granted the right to a privileged purchase of the company's shares
in the worth up to DM20,000.
The unions also believe the present moment is not a good one for the
privatisation of the HT, given that neighbouring countries in
transition are currently doing the same, which the unions believe
would be detrimental to the reaching of a good price.
