central Croatia on June 20, 1999. The marathon, unique in both Europe and the world, sees athletes run 42km along lakes and waterfalls, rivers and brooks, and through the woods of the park which has been proclaimed part of the world's natural heritage. According to the director of the marathon, Ivan Teklic, the highest number of runners will, apart from Croatia, come from Italy, Slovenia, and Germany.
