ZAGREB ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - A capital work of Croatian lexicography, the first of the 11 volumes of the Croatian Encyclopaedia, published by the Lexicographic Institute "Miroslav Krleza", was officially presented at the Croatian
National Theatre in Zagreb on Wednesday. The volume, from letters A to Bd, described by its presenters as an exceptional national and cultural event, has 674 pages, 7,400 articles, 80,000 lines, 1,300 black-and-white pictures and 48 pages of colour photos and maps. A team of 400 people worked on the volume, which deals with 124 professions. The work was conducted by the edition's editor-in-chief, Academician Dalibor Brozovic. The edition was presented on the occasion of May 5, the Day of Croatian Lexicography. Speaking about the project of the Croatian Encyclopaedia, Brozovic stressed the Encyclopaedia was the result of five centuries of Croatian lexicography.

The Croatian Encyclopaedia is a general encyclopaedia, but with an
emphasised national component - 30 per cent of its content are
national and 70 per cent general topics.
Apart from general knowledge, the encyclopaedia is aimed at
providing a complete and reliable survey of Croatian history and
culture, its geopolitical position, resources and nature,
geographic characteristics and economy.
Today's event in a packed Croatian National Theatre was attended by
high state officials, representatives of scientific and cultural
institutions, church dignitaries and representatives of the
Lexicographic Institute.
