ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - The US Ambassador to Croatia, William
Montgomery, on Tuesday met Croatian Justice Minister Zvonimir
Separovic at Separovic's request, the Justice Ministry said in a
statement on Wednesday.
The two officials discussed further cooperation between the
Croatian and American judicial bodies and reached a high level of
agreement on all issues discussed, the statement read.
Speaking about Croatia's request for the handover of Croatian
citizens serving prison sentences in the United States and France,
Separovic stressed the case of Zvonko Busic, and informed
Montgomery about the steps Croatia had taken so far to bring about
his transfer.
It is possible that Busic will be handed over if Croatia respects
international regulations on the serving of prison sentences after
handover.
The US Ambassador also said Croatia would have to enable US
representatives to inspect at any time the way the sentences were
being served in Croatia.
The two officials also discussed the possibility of fulfilling
Croatia's request that a World War II criminal, a Chetnik priest
Momcilo Djujic be extradited by the United States. Montgomery said
that if Croatia submitted new convincing evidence, the fact that
Djujic was a US citizen should not be an obstacle to his handover,
the Justice Ministry reported.
