ZAGREB, April 28 (Hina) - Representatives of both the ruling and
Opposition parties at the Croatian National Sabor's House of
Representatives were unanimous on Thursday that Moslavacka Gora (a
mountain about 60 km east of Zagreb) should not be considered as a
potential radioactive waste disposal site.
Moslavacka Gora has very good drinking water wells; the granite it
is composed of is not impermeable; in terms of geology and
seismology, it is not a good location; and there are valuable and
protected locations on the mountain, said Janko Bobetko of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), proposing that Moslavacka Gora
should not be considered as a potential radioactive waste disposal
site.
Bobetko's suggestions to the Government proposal on Croatia's
urban development were endorsed by the majority of Lower House
members.
Requests could also be heard for the whole procedure of selecting
the location for waste disposal to be repeated.
The MPs supported the Government's intention to give up the
construction of a nuclear and coal-fired thermal power plants. They
also supported the idea of Croatia's polycentric development.
Representatives had a series of objections to the suggested
direction of a motorway running to Split via Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The Opposition believes Croatia should consider roads running
through other states only as directions of possible interest.
