Croatia the possibility of being viewed by the European Union as an
"island of stability" in the region.
Croatia's prospects to be seen by the EU with different eyes, as an
island of stability in the region, are good, Jankowitsch told a
lecture held as part of "Croatia and the EU", a series of lectures
organised by the Croatian government's Office for European

The Austrian official stressed however Croatia must take seriously
the conditions the EU set before it, and added he was sure Croatia
would join European integration processes.
Focusing on EU reform from the Austrian perspective, Jankowitsch
spoke in his lecture about ideas being considered to improve the
effectiveness of European institutions.
Speaking of EU relations with countries in eastern and south-
eastern Europe, Jankowitsch pointed out the issue was not only an
economic and financial one, but also an issue of peace and stability
on the European continent and a way of overcoming Europe's past.
