ZAGREB ZAGREB, April 24 (Hina) - Croatia's President Franjo Tudjman along with his wife Ankica and associates, on Saturday morning visited Marulic Square in Zagreb where a monument to Marko Marulic, the "father of the Croatian
literature", Croatian Renaissance poet and European humanist, was unveiled two days ago. The monument is a work of sculptor Vlado Radas and architect Frane Cota. Zagreb had waited almost an entire century for a Marulic monument, the erection of which was first proposed in 1901. Finally the monument was erected on April 22 - Croatian Book Day - this year. The first Marulic monument was set up in his hometown, the southern city of Split in 1925, and was sculpted by world-famous Croatian artist Ivan Mestrovic. with his wife Ankica and associates, on Saturday morning visited
Marulic Square in Zagreb where a monument to Marko Marulic, the
"father of the Croatian literature", Croatian Renaissance poet and
European humanist, was unveiled two days ago.

President Tudjman was very pleased to see the monument and walk
around the square.
On this occasion he said: "We had to create the independent,
sovereign and democratic Croatian state and conducted the project
which had already existed for one hundred years."
He added that this new monument in the downtown Zagreb contributed
to making the Croatian capital more beautiful.
