SARAJEVO, April 23 (Hina) - The printing new statements of
accounts, for citizens marked in Sarajevo on Friday the beginning
of the so-called large privatisation in the Federation of Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
According to previously adopted laws, all persons who were the
citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina on March 31, 1991, and had permanent
residence in the country have the right to receive certificates
with which they can participate in the process of privatisation of
companies, flats or company premises.
The director of the federal Agency for Privatisation, Adnan
Mujagic, said after extensive preparations, information was
gathered about 1,912,000 persons for whom special accounts have
been opened.
The printing of settlements of accounts began on Friday and will be
completed by May 7.
Director of the USAID mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Craig Buck,
said the printing and distribution of certificates was a very
important process which opens up the opportunity for privatising
companies, but also warned that this was only one of measures which
need to be taken in the implementation of economic reforms in
Bosnia-Herzegovina.
As soon as companies are privatised we will enter the second phase
of reforms in which the US will also participate, Buck said.
He recalled the US Administration decided to remain in Bosnia-
Herzegovina for a long time and ensure funds for loans which will be
granted to private companies, and will also offer assistance in
managing private companies.
The United States has so far invested about US$600 million into the
reconstruction of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Beginning the privatisation process is a reply by the Bosnian
Federation to the current crisis, Bosnian Federation Prime
Minister Edhem Bicakcic said.
He stressed the privatisation would most probably cause the
dismissal of people who are not able to adjust to it.
Expedited privatisation is one of the conditions of the
international community for the holding of a donors' conference for
Bosnia-Herzegovina, announced for My.
