PRAGUE, April 14 (Hina) - Investment possibilities in Croatia were
discussed on Tuesday night within an event presenting Croatian
economy, which is being held in Prague.
The seminar was addressed by Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK)
president Nadan Vidosevic, Assistant Economy Minister Neven
Mimica, a director at the HGK, Dunja Konjevod, and the director of
the Croatian Agency for Investment Promotion (HAPU), Vanja
Kalogjera.
The head of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade's department
for countries in transition, Jan Hronik, and the director of "Czech
Trade", Judita Stouracova, spoke about the interests and potential
of the Czech economy.
Economy Minister Porges announced that Croatia was preparing a
package of measures for foreign investments, which would include
benefits for major investors.
Porges' assistant Neven Mimica said Croatia would not realise the
expected Gross Domestic Product this year because of recession
trends. At the end of last year and the beginning of this year, there
was a decrease in personal and public spending due to the smaller
inflow of foreign capital, and Croatia has to turn to import and
foreign markets. As regards its trade relations with foreign
countries, Croatia has been registering a negative balance of
payments with all central European countries, Mimica said, adding
though that the deficit was not worrying because "we are creating
conditions for a more intensive exchange, not only as regards
trade, but production and joint investments as well".
Dunja Konjevod informed Czech business people about legal
conditions for doing business in Croatia, adding that ten
representatives of Czech companies were already operating in
Croatia.
HAPU director Vanja Kalogjera said that good opportunities for
Czech investments were offered in Croatia's tourism, traffic
infrastructure and the sewerage infrastructure in the coastal
region.
Czech representative Hronik called for more intense presence of
Croatian business people on the Czech market. Croatia is
participating with only 0.4 per cent in the overall foreign trade of
the Czech Republic, he added.
