MIKLUSEVCI: "WATER THROWERS" MIKLUSEVCI, April 5 (Hina) - The village of Miklusevci, mostly populated by Ruthenians, in the eastern Croatian Vukovar-Srijem County, is known for its Easter Monday tradition, called "water throwers". On
Easter Monday, men climb onto horse-pulled coaches, and, accompanied by tambura players, ride around the village, throwing water from buckets onto women. People then give them coloured Easter eggs, drinks and cakes. The residents of Miklusevci say it used to be a tradition that the women waited in front of their homes to be soaked, but nowadays they run into the house or the barn and hide. The men have to find them first and then throw water on them. The next day, the women climb onto the coaches and throw water on the men.
