ZAGREB, Mar 28 (Hina) - The Archbishop of Zagreb, Monsignor Josip
Bozanic, on Sunday called on the faithful to pray for peace in
Kosovo and the entire Yugoslavia, pointing out their peace is the
pawn for our peace.
"In these regions, the power of evil has been strong and efficient
since the beginning of the decade. So many have been killed,
massacred, exiled. Ethnic cleansing has been carried out in the
name of nationality and ideology. Has this evil been ended? It has
not.
"Lately we are hearing terrible reports on suffering in Kosovo and
throughout the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. This worries us,
scares us. We sympathise with all who today are suffering, losing
those closest to them, regardless of their nationality or faith.
This induces us to pray for peace more ardently," Monsignor Bozanic
told a way of the cross gathering in Zagreb.
He called on the faithful to pray for peace in Kosovo and the entire
Yugoslavia, for peace on the Balkans, for peace in our
neighbourhood.
Emphasising peace in Yugoslavia was a pawn for our peace as well,
Bozanic reiterated the words the Holy Father said in Zagreb in 1994.
"Progress and the well-being of the peoples on the Balkans have only
one name: peace!," the Pope had said.
"May God, rich with mercy, change people's hearts. May he bring
those responsible to the negotiating table. May he have mercy on the
peoples in these regions. And may he reward us with peace. There
have been many innocent victims, enough war, too much suffering,"
the Archbishop of Zagreb said.
