SARAJEVO, Mar 28 (Hina) - The international High Representative for
Bosnia, Carlos Westendorp, and his two deputies Jacques Klein and
Hans Schumacher on Sunday sent condolences to the family of the late
deputy interior minister of Bosnia's Croat-Muslim Federation, Jozo
Leutar.
Leutar, a Bosnian Croat, was seriously injured in a murder attempt
in Sarajevo on March 16. He passed away on Sunday morning.
According to a statement from Westendorp's Sarajevo-based Office,
the three high ranking officials are deeply saddened by Leutar's
tragic passing. Collaborating with the deputy interior ministers,
they were first hand witnesses to the courage and ability he
demonstrated while performing the duty of one of the most important
federal officials.
Westendorp's Office reiterated its appeal to local authorities in
Bosnia to take resolute steps to terminate the investigation into
the attempt on Leutar's life, and to arrest and punish the
perpetrators of that foul crime.
The High Representative and his associates believe it is the duty of
all sides in Bosnia to maintain public peace and order at the
present moment, and to refrain from making statements which might
foment fear and unrest among the Federation's population.
We believe that is what Leutar, a champion of peace and public
order, would have wanted himself, the statement said.
