CRO FOREIGN MINISTER HAILS APPOINTMENT OF NEW ILO DIRECTOR

GENEVA, March 22 (Hina) - On behalf of 26 Central and East European countries, Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic on Monday welcomed the appointment of the new director of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Juan Somavia. Croatia attaches special importance to its membership and role in the ILO, which is important for every country with market economy, and particularly for developing countries, Granic told Croatian reporters after a ceremony at which Somavia took up his duties. Croatia is a member of the ILO administrative body and represents 26 Central and Eas European countries. Granic is on a three-day official visit to Geneva, where he will give a speech at the 55th session of the United Nations' Committee for Human Rights on Tuesday.
