Albanian-populated villages in central Kosovo have been exposed to the shelling since Sunday evening. Schools in Glogovac, Kosovska Mitrovica, Podujevo, Djakovica and Vucitrn are being temporarily closed due to the deterioration of the situation. Fresh reinforcement have been dispatched to Serb troops. Seven tanks have left Pristina and headed toward Podujevo today. Fresh forces along with up to 60 armoured carriers have been deployed also in Lipljani 15 kilometre south of the province's capital. The UNHCR has warned that the latest clashes forced at least 20,000 Albanians to leave their homes. Since the beginning of this year estimated 100,000 people have fled their home, and 70,000 of them had to leave houses in the past six weeks, according to UNHCR figures. The National Movement for the Liberation of Kosovo, which has been illegally operating mainly abroad for years, issued a special statement saying that results of the recent international conference on the Kosovo problem were the worst possible option for ethnic Albanians. The statement, conveyed by the "Koha Ditore" daily on Monday, read that promises given by the international community did not differ from its pledges ten years ago. The National Movement called on the Kosovo people and the KLA headquarters to be resolute in resistance to Serb forces. (hina) ms
