ZAGREB, Mar 9 (Hina) - The Republic Trade Union of Croatian Post and
Telecommunications Workers on Tuesday announced protests starting
Thursday, March 11.
The union said the protests come in reaction to the fact that the
Croatian Telecommunications (HT) Directorate has been breaching a
post and telecommunications branch work agreement on minimum
salaries and the five-day working week.
Union president Jadranko Vehar told reporters in Zagreb the minimum
salary at HT was US$243 at present. According to the branch work
agreement it should rise in keeping with the increase in the cost of
living and the average salary.
Vehar explained the minimum HT salary should total US$263, given
that average salaries have risen by eight percent since last
October, when the branch work agreement was signed.
Vehar said the HT Directorate did not comply either with
regulations on the five-day working week. As a result, four percent
of HT employees have to work weekends as well.
The announced protests will consist of three stages, he added.
