ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - Leaders of the Croatian six opposition
parties will visit the headquarters of the European Union in
Brussels this month if it is possible to adjust schedule of all
guests and hosts, Mirela Rasic, the political advisor in the
Zagreb-based office of the European Commission representative,
told Hina on Tuesday.
The visit of the Opposition Six leaders to Brussels has been
temporarily postponed for several weeks due to the busy schedule of
the EU foreign affairs commissioner, Hans Van den Broek, Rasic
said.
The visit will take place, but it is still unknown when it will be
exactly, she said adding that both Croatian opposition leaders and
EU officials would like that they can meet this month.
She dismissed the speculation that the relations between Brussels
and Croatian opposition representatives had cooled down following
recent statements by Drazen Budisa, the President of the Croatian
Social and Liberal Party (HSLS), on the situation in Bosnia-
Herzegovina which he gave during his tour of Sarajevo and Mostar..
There are no political reasons for the postponement of the Brussels
meeting. Only technical reasons are behind the delay, Rasic
stressed.
Both sides wanted Hans van den Broek to participate in the talks.
The visit had to be delayed since he was so busy, she added.
Leaders of the HSLS, the SDP (Social and Democratic Party), the LS
(Liberal Party), the HSS (Croatian Peasants' Party), the HNS
(Croatian People's Party) and the IDS (Istrian Democratic
Alliance), should have visited Brussels from 27 February to 3
March.
The wish of the EU is that they could visit Brussels this month since
the European Commission should prepare a new regular report on
Croatia by the end of March. The EU foreign minister will discuss
the report in April and define further guidelines for the
development of the relations between the EU and Croatia.
The European Commission's office in Zagreb has already completed
its report on the situation in Croatia and forwarded it Brussels.
The European Commission uses this document and other sources for
drawing up a report on Croatia every six months.
