ZAGREB, March 2 - A bill on the financial incentives and
compensation in agriculture and fishing, which was discussed on
Tuesday by the Croatian Parliament House of Counties, envisages
several novelties.
Under the bill, a selective payment per sowing area for the crop
production will be introduced.
The State would subsidise the growing of several-year-old plants in
fruit and wine growing.
The selective payment will be introduced per head of cattle as
well.
Additional attention should be paid for areas of the special state
concern, mountainous areas and islands (the so-called marginal
regions).
A new bill proposes another 17 stimulating measures (for example,
for the growing of wheat, oil crops, shells, the catching of the
blue fish and so on.)
There will be an increase in stimulation for tobacco, cow milk and
the production of honey, and some species of fish. On the other
hand, stimulation would be reduced for the production of bone meal,
fish meal and grape in some areas.
A considerable number of proposed incentives did not satisfy House
of Counties members who suggested another measures for stimulation
in agriculture, depending on areas from where they come.
Deputies also demanded that more areas should be included into the
so-called marginal regions which are entitled to receive larger
financial incentives.
