ZAGREB, Feb 26 (Hina) - Croatian Assistant Defence Minister, Major General Marinko Kresic, has denied he was in any way connected with Thursday's assault on reporters of the "Jutarnji list" daily on the island of Lopud near Dubrovnik.
In a statement issued Friday, Kresic recalled the Croatian Television and Jutarnji list, followed by other dailies, had reported that "two reporters of Jutarnji list were beaten in front of General Marinko Kresic's house". "As the article and the whole context as presented to viewers and readers could imply that I could be connected with the assault on the reporters, I wish to inform the public that I am not connected to the entire event in any way," Kresic stressed. "I neither knew Jutarnji list's reporters would be where they were, nor was I there or in any way connected with the assailants," Kresic said. Kresic said the "Defence Ministry initiated an inquiry to establish
relevant facts and act accordingly".
Jutarnji list said that the head of the paper's correspondence
office, Jadran Kapor, and photographer Mateo Rilovic, had been
attacked while "investigating the case of an alleged illegal
construction of Assistance Defence Minister Marinko Kresic's
house."
