SARAJEVO, Feb 18 (Hina) - The United States Embassy in Sarajevo on
Thursday condemned suggestions for the creation of a third entity
in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BH) and demanded full compliance with the
Dayton peace agreement by which the Croat-Muslim federation within
BH was established in 1994.
An Embassy statement said the U.S. abides fully by the Washington
agreement and the implementation of the Dayton agreement which, the
statement said, helped create one state, BH, composed of two, and
only two, multiethnic entities.
The U.S. Embassy reminds that the entire international community
advocated the implementation of the Dayton agreement in the form it
was signed, while the Peace Implementation Council in Madrid last
December confirmed the international community's decision.
There is nor will be an alternative, the statement said, adding
Bosnia's future can be ensured only through the establishment of a
genuinely multiethnic society.
Recent statement, such as in a "Slobodna BH" daily commentary,
which attacked the principles of the Dayton agreement, are
irresponsible and unacceptable, the statement said.
Equally so are campaigns for the signing of petitions which call for
the creation of a third entity, the statement added, and called on
political leaders to publicly distance themselves from similar
statements and actions and to reiterate their commitment to the
Dayton agreement.
