BELGRADE, Jan 25 (Hina) - The Yugoslav Government will soon reply to
a letter from the Croatian embassy in Belgrade informing the
Yugoslav Foreign Ministry that Croatia has unilaterally opened two
border crossings, Yugoslav Premier Momir Bulatovic said on
Monday.
Bulatovic said his country was ready to support the normalisation
of relations and opening of border crossings with Croatia but only
after talks on the final setting of borders were completed.
"The Government of the Republic of Croatia has no right to make
unilateral decisions on the opening of border crossings and we will
discuss that issue in regular diplomatic communication", Bulatovic
said in an interview with today's issue of the Belgrade daily
"Danas".
He also said that the Montenegrin Government did not have the
constitutional powers to negotiate about border crossings and
added that its decision to open two border crossings with Croatia
was "anti-constitutional and illegal".
The border crossings of Debeli Brijeg and Konfin were opened on
January 20 this year, in line with an agreement between Croatian and
Montenegrin representatives.
The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is opposing the opening of the
border crossings because of its territorial pretensions towards
Croatia's southern-most peninsula of Prevlaka, which is within
Croatia's internationally recognised borders. By agreeing to open
the said border crossings, Yugoslavia would confirm the existing
borders with Croatia.
