SARAJEVO, Jan 19 (Hina) - The marking of the most important Muslim
holiday, Bayram, in Bosnia began with a prayer said by the head of
the Islamic Community in Bosnia, Mustafa Ceric.
In his message, Ceric said the full mosques in the past month of the
Ramadan fast had faithfully shown that Bosnian Muslims were
returning to their faith and tradition, especially the younger
generations.
Especially encouraging was the fact that the Muslims' return to
moral values occurred "despite the hatred spread about them in some
media," Ceric said.
He added it was necessary for Bosnian Muslims to remain close in
their community, as it was the only way for them to survive.
Ceric also criticised the burgeoning corruption in Bosnia. No
authority resting on the deprivation of orphans and the poor of
their rights can survive, he said.
Ceric and all Bosnian Muslims were wished the best for Bayram by all
three members of Bosnia's collective Presidency.
Presidency chairman, Serb Zivko Radisic, hoped Bayram would incite
stronger peace and understanding in Bosnia. Croat Presidency
member Ante Jelavic hoped the marking of Bayram would stimulate
stronger mutual respect and tolerance which, he said, were
characteristics typical of all true faithful.
