SPLIT, Jan 17 (Hina) - An immigrant of Croatian descent, who settled with his family in Split two months ago, began cultivating carnations at Kastela for the export to the European market. Ivor Sassa established a firm and employed
five workers to raise carnations at 2.5 hectares of land at Kastela near Split. He planned to expand the production at 7 hectares and create new 35 jobs by the end of this year. He signed a contract with his Dutch partners for the export of carnations into the Netherlands. Sassa, who was a flower-grower in several countries, said the climate in Dalmatia was favourable for cultivating flowers in this southern part of Croatia. Furthermore, Dalmatia is near the strong European market and has enough workforce, he added. He voiced satisfaction with the economic potential of Croatia.
