ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - A joint Croatian and Bosnian group of
experts in charge of establishing the border line between the two
countries failed to reach an agreement about the exact position of
the border line at Martin Brod (southeast Croatia, western Bosnia-
Herzegovina) and decided to let the Interstate Diplomatic
Commission for the border between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina
to handle the issue.
"It was concluded that the two delegations and available
documentation had a dispute about the exact position of the border
line in the Martin Brod area," the Croatian government's
Communications Office said Friday following the third session of
the joint group held in Zagreb.
As the two delegations failed to settle the dispute, they decided to
allow the interstate diplomatic border commission handle the issue
and settle it on the basis of existing cadastral books or on the
basis of statistic data from 1991.
Valid cadastre plans and statistic divisions from 1991 had been
used at the meeting.
"It was established that the border line at Martin Brod was parallel
to the river Una, according to the first cadastre measurings. The
same measurings are in effect in Croatia today, while in Bosnia-
Herzegovina, a new cadastre had been made in 1952 for the Veliki
Cvjetnic cadastre municipality (Drvar municipality), according to
which the border of the cadastre municipality had been moved
westwards into the area of the cadastre municipality of Doljani
(Donji Lapac municipality).
"The Croatian delegation holds that this change had not been done in
line with the at the time valid Constitution and other valid
regulations of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, and has
requested the Bosnian delegation to provide proof of the true
validity of the act," the Office said in the statement.
The Office added that, based on comparisons of statistic divisions
in the municipalities of Donji Lapac and Titov Drvar from 1991, the
group of experts established a slight difference in the lines of
statistic divisions west of the Una River.
