WASHINGTON, Jan 9 (Hina) - The arrival of a delegation of Croatia
and representatives of leading Croatian firms connected with the
opening of Croatia's consulate general in Chicago in April, will be
some kind of the reciprocal visit of Croatia's trading and business
mission to the United States, said Croatian Ambassador to the U.S.,
Miomir Zuzul, during his talks at the Department of Commerce in
Washington on Friday.
From 1995 until now there have been two similar missions of the
United States to Croatia, and one of them was marked by the tragic
death of the Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and several American
businessmen.
On Friday, Ambassador Zuzul held talks with Assistant Secretary of
Commerce Patrick Mulloy. Zuzul informed Mulloy that on the occasion
of the opening of the Croatian Consulate General in Chicago, his
country would present its economy and possibilities of trade and
foreign investment into Croatia.
Mulloy voiced satisfaction with it and promised that the U.S.
Department of Commerce would support plans for the announced
visit.
Mulloy and Zuzul described as positive the economic cooperation and
projects currently being implemented in which big American
companies such as Bechtel and Parsons are engaged.
They believed that negotiations between the Croatian Electric
Power Industry 'HEP' and the U.S. corporation 'Enron' on the
construction of the gas thermoelectric power plant would be soon
concluded successfully.
The Zuzul-Mulloy talks also focused on Croatia's bid for joining
the World Trade Organisation (WTO) which the U.S. Department of
Commerce could be expected to support.
