VICTIMS OF FASCISM GET BACK THEIR ZAGREB SQUARE

ZAGREB SQUARE ZAGREB, Dec 20 (Hina) - A Zagreb square, which has until today been called the Square of Croatian Great Men for nine years, was on Wednesday restored its previous name "The Square of Victims of Fascism". The name "The Square of Croatian Great Men" was given to a nearby square previously called the square of stock exchanges, according to a decision of the city's assembly. Of the total of 50 city councillors, 27 voted in a favour of renaming the square "The Square of Victims of Fascism" after a heated-seven-hour-long debate. Seven councillors - members of the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union), HSS (Croatian Peasants' Party) and HSLS (Croatian Social Liberal Party) - voted against it, four abstained, and Democratic Centre (DC) members left the session before the vote.
