HSS OFTEN IGNORED ITS OWN INTEREST, BEING A STABILITY FACTOR

ZAGREB, Dec 17 (Hina) - Members of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) Presidency and Main Committee at Sunday's session assessed the HSS had in the ruling coalition of six parties and in the Government, been too modest, and had, as factor of stability of the six parties, often ignored its own party interests. The session was closed for the public. Party president Zlatko Tomcic told reporters after the meeting the HSS asked for discussions on everything and all problems existing in the ruling coalition. "We left the job for after New Year's, when we shall open the subjects more," Tomcic announced. "We have no need to call this a review of the work of the six parties," Tomcic said when asked whether this meant the HSS would review the six parties' work in January, on track of announcements by some other parties. "We left the job for after New Year's, when we shall open the subjects more," Tomcic announced. "We have no need to call this a review of the work of the six parties," Tomcic said when asked whether this meant the HSS would review the six parties' work in January, on track of announcements by some other parties. "We want arguments for and against good work to be put on the table and analysed which will contribute to strengthening the coalition and making the government more effective," he added. Tomcic said he remained behind assessments the coalition had no alternative. "I still think that, but I had warned earlier an alternative would appear if the six do not solve the accumulated economic and social problems faster," he said. Speaking about the work of the party, Tomcic said they had to improve work with people and solving their economic and social problems. Tomcic said he had been very critical during the session, "not because the HSS did bad work, but to warn about omissions and stimulate the party it should help the six and the government authorities in solving omissions in the upcoming period." Asked about the omissions, Tomcic said they were insufficiently fast "entries into projects promised to voters before elections". He recalled there was still no law on an audit of the privatisation process in effect, Croatia was still not sufficiently attractive for foreign investments, living conditions were bad, there was no economic momentum.
