ZAGREB, Dec 8 (Hina) - Croatian National Bank (HNB) Governor Zeljko Rohatinski on Friday placed his mandate at parliament's disposal saying he did not want to burden the parliamentary debate on a new law on the HNB with possible
personnel issues. In a letter sent to parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic, Rohatinski says that the government's bill on the HNB is very important for the improvement of the financial system as well as for increasing the effectiveness of the monetary policy and overall adjustment of Croatia's legislation to the European Union legislation. The bill regulates the position, activities and powers of the central bank and the obligations and powers of the HNB governor in a rather different manner than the current law. In a letter sent to parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic, Rohatinski

To avoid burdening the discussion on the bill with the issue of the
personal dignity and competence of the current HNB governor in
governing the Croatian National Bank under changed circumstances,
I place my mandate at parliament's disposal, says Rohatinski in the
letter which he also sent to President Stjepan Mesic and Prime
Minister Ivica Racan.
