ZAGREB, Dec 7 (Hina) - The Croatian Journalists' Association (HND)
on Thursday issued a statement requesting competent state bodies to
shed light on the 'Grupo' affair as soon as possible.
The affair broke out after the newly-established daily 'Republika'
accused the head of the 'Europapress holding' management board,
Ninoslav Pavic, OTV TV station co-owner Vinko Grubisic, media mogul
Miroslav Kutle and politician Ivic Pasalic of trying to take over
control of the largest part of Croatia's media space through an
association called 'Grupo.'
"The latest scandal, like similar scandals and cases, adds oil to
the fire in Croatia's media war and creates an atmosphere which is
not a good ally in the democratisation of the Croatian journalism
and society as a whole and their being made civilised."
The HND warns about the need to change 'media laws' with the aim of
preventing situations in which reporters would depend on owners,
whether they be private persons or the state.
