ZAGREB, Dec 6 (Hina) - One suspect of alleged collusion with the aim
of monopolising Croatian media, the co-owner of the OTV, Vinko
Grubisic, was released from custody Wednesday afternoon, and
chairman of the Europa Press Holding management board is expected
to be released during the evening, due to insufficient evidence to
support police charges.
The Zagreb County State Prosecution said Wednesday due to
insufficient evidence that Pavic and Grubisic had committed the
crime of abuse of office, it would request additional probing and
evidence.
The decision on the justification of charges will be made by the
County State Prosecution pursuant to the police enquiry.
Grubisic and Pavic were apprehended Monday and on Tuesday were
given a 48-hour detention.
Upon exiting the detention premises, Grubisic said the events did
not deserve any comment.
"It is impermissible to treat such renowned people in Croatia in
such a manner," his attorney Igor Grubisic said.
He expressed hope the defence counsel would in further proceedings
prove "these are activities that will boomerang".
He said that through a brief look-through over the investigative
judge's files he noticed no original of the agreement on the union
of the four suspects on the media market, only a copy of the
agreement.
This is not sufficient evidence for somebody to be discredited in
this way, Grubisic's attorney said.
The agreement was allegedly signed by Pavic, Grubisic, Miroslav
Kutle, who is currently in trial for white-collar crime, and a at
the time high-ranking official in the Croatian Democratic Union,
Ivic Pasalic.
