In his speech, which was distributed to reporters at the Summit's
press-centre, Kostunica said: "I believe I share the opinion of my
colleagues from other Balkan states when I say that in this mini-
European area we want to recreate the history of European
integration on the model of the European Union."
Kostunica did not want to elaborate on the causes of the war,
stating only they were "intertwined in several ways and complex."
In his speech, he made no mention of the Hague war crimes tribunal
for the former Yugoslavia.
Speaking about Montenegro, he said one would undertake a "careful
and patient reconstruction of the current federal state."
"We are now close to a lasting peace among the states-successors to
the former Yugoslavia and both our countries and the European Union
have a historical opportunity to show their potential for
presenting a vision of the future in the name of a general European
peace," the Yugoslav president said.
