Bosnian HDZ president Ante Jelavic said the denial of mandates to his party's deputies was a breach of Bosnia's constitution and "trampling" on the citizens' political will. ZAGREB, Nov 23 (Hina) - The presidents of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) and Bosnia's HDZ on Thursday urged the international
community to revoke a decision penalising deputies of Bosnia's HDZ,
and another on electoral rules which they say are contrary to the
Dayton peace accords and Bosnia's constitution.
Bosnian HDZ president Ante Jelavic said the denial of mandates to
his party's deputies was a breach of Bosnia's constitution and
"trampling" on the citizens' political will. As regards the Bosnian
Croat electorate, HDZ has made a landslide victory at recent
elections with 82-90 percent of the vote, he said.
Jelavic believes the "Croat issue" has to be raised in Bosnia as the
least numerous people can hardly exercise equal rights. We are
entitled to expression and self-determination and the referendum
on election day was not a breach of electoral rules, he asserted.
Jelavic said he believed in the common sense and political
sensibility of Bosnia's politicians, and called on serious
dialogue and not the imposition of force. We do not seek a separate
entity or territory but the respect of equality and equal
standards, he concluded.
HDZ president Ivo Sanader said his party had urged a parliamentary
debate on the implementation of the Dayton deal and an agreement on
special relations between Croatia and Bosnia's Croat-Muslim
federation.
HDZ, the strongest opposition party in Croatia, will insist on the
debate in the House of Representatives in December, he said,
calling on all parliamentary parties to invest maximum effort to
reach consensus on the conclusions of the debate.
