SARAJEVO, Nov 14 (Hina) - According to available information on the results of the general election in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Socialist Democratic Party (SDP) is the strongest single party in the country, however, national parties
have again received the support of a significant part of the electorate. Of some 726,000 of counted ballots in the election for the new
composition of the BH parliament's House of Representatives from
the Federation, the SDP has won 26.6 percent, the Party of
Democratic Action (SDA) 24.9 percent, and the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) 23.1 percent.
The Serb Democratic Party (SDS) has won 41.7 percent of votes in the
election of deputies for the state parliament from Republika
Srpska. The Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) of Mladen Ivanic has
won 16.8 percent of the vote while the Party of Independent Social
Democrats (SNSD) of Milorad Dodik has won about 13 percent of the
vote.
The SDP has won 25.9 percent of 717,000 ballots counted so far in the
election for the House of Representatives of the BH Federation
Parliament, whereas the SDA, HDZ and the Party for Bosnia-
Herzegovina of Haris Silajdzic have won 25.1, 19.5 and 14.8 percent
of the vote respectively.
The SDS leads with 37.5 percent of 408,000 counted ballots in the
election for the Republika Srpska National Assembly. The SNSD is
second with 16.2 percent and the PDP third with 13.2 percent.
SDS's candidate for Republika Srpska president, Mirko Sarovic, is
in the lead with 49.1 percent of 419,000 counted ballots, followed
by Milorad Dodik with 30 percent of the vote. The SDS is first in the
election for the municipal council of the eastern town of
Srebrenica with 35.7 percent of the vote.
Data on elections on the cantonal level show that the SDA is a
relative winner in Una-Sana and Zenica-Doboj cantons, while it is
running neck and neck with the SDP in the elections in Gorazde
Canton.
The SDP is in the lead in Sarajevo and Tuzla cantons, while the HDZ
is leading in Posavina, Central Bosnia, Herzegovina-Neretva, West
Herzegovina and Livno cantons.
