SARAJEVO, Nov 23 (Hina) - High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Wolfgang Petritsch on Thursday said he did not intend to directly support any party or individual in the establishment of the authorities in the country based on
the results of recently held municipal elections. He will, however, insist on each party's commitment to the principles of the Dayton Agreement. I expect those who were elected to fulfill pre-electoral promises and act in line with the interest of the country, Petritsch told reporters in Sarajevo, and added it was up to political leaders in Bosnia-Hercegovina to reach a compromise on the establishment of new governments. SARAJEVO, Nov 23 (Hina) - High Representative for Bosnia and
Herzegovina Wolfgang Petritsch on Thursday said he did not intend
to directly support any party or individual in the establishment of
the authorities in the country based on the results of recently held
municipal elections.
He will, however, insist on each party's commitment to the
principles of the Dayton Agreement.
I expect those who were elected to fulfill pre-electoral promises
and act in line with the interest of the country, Petritsch told
reporters in Sarajevo, and added it was up to political leaders in
Bosnia-Hercegovina to reach a compromise on the establishment of
new governments.
I will not support a particular political party but principles and
the letter of the Dayton Agreement, therefore, I will support
parties which agree with that, Petritsch said.
Commenting on the announcements that the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) could refuse to participate in the establishment of a new
authority, the High Representative said he was personally prepared
for dialogue, however, he was not ready to work with those who were
publicly calling on boycotts.
He expressed a belief there was readiness for compromise among
members of the HDZ, because numerous senior officials of the party
had been dissatisfied with the policy of conflicts.
Isolation is the worst solution possible and the current HDZ
leadership has isolated itself even from Croatia, their mother-
country. Such a policy fails to offer a future for politicians as
well as for Bosnian Croats and this has got to change, Petritsch
concluded.
