He said that the implementation of the Dayton peace agreements was mostly successful, and added it was necessary to strengthen Bosnia-Herzegovina's central authority, ensure conditions for the return of refugees, reconstruct the economy and intensify cooperation with neighbouring countries. DAYTON, Nov 18 (Hina) - Croatia expects the conference, held on the
occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Dayton peace agreements,
to offer answers to questions on what needs to be done in order to
entirely implement the agreements and carry out their strategic
goals, Croatian President Stipe Mesic said in Dayton Friday.
He said that the implementation of the Dayton peace agreements was
mostly successful, and added it was necessary to strengthen Bosnia-
Herzegovina's central authority, ensure conditions for the return
of refugees, reconstruct the economy and intensify cooperation
with neighbouring countries.
Mesic stressed it was impossible to have three armies in Bosnia-
Herzegovina. A country must have one army, one command structure
and one source of financing, he added.
Mesic said the development of relations between Zagreb and Belgrade
depended on the pace of democratic changes in the Federal Republic
of Yugoslavia.
It is our wish to have cooperation established with neighbouring
countries, which was impossible in Milosevic's regime, the
Croatian President stressed.
Mesic also addressed the upcoming Summit in Zagreb and said it was
the most significant event in Croatia and a unique meeting of heads
of the European Union in a country which was not yet a member.
When asked about the participation of Montenegrin President Milo
Djukanovic in the Zagreb Summit, the Croatian President said the
man who initiated democratic changes in the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia and Montenegro had the right and need to speak at the
Summit.
