SPLIT, Nov 15 (Hina) - Croatian Homeland Defence War soldiers' Minister Ivica Pancic said in Split Wednesday the Zagreb Summit (taking place on November 24) provided a golden opportunity for stating to Yugoslav representatives that

Pancic referred to a statement made by a leader of the Democratic Opposition of Serbia, Zoran Djindjic, that Croatia should, as a gesture of good will, yield its Prevlaka peninsula to Yugoslavia. Minister Ivica Pancic said in Split Wednesday the Zagreb Summit
(taking place on November 24) provided a golden opportunity for
stating to Yugoslav representatives that the claims made by their
leaders on Croatia's southernmost peninsula of Prevlaka or the
conduct of some of their people in Vukovar would not be tolerated by
the Croatian government authority.
Pancic referred to a statement made by a leader of the Democratic
Opposition of Serbia, Zoran Djindjic, that Croatia should, as a
gesture of good will, yield its Prevlaka peninsula to Yugoslavia.
This statement has stirred harsh reactions n Croatia, especially as
it had been expected that the new authority in the neighbouring
Yugoslavia would cease its former president Milosevic's policy of
territorial pretensions to this part of Croatia.
The other issue concerning Pancic was a recent statement made by a
Serbian government member in Croatia's eastern town of Vukovar into
which he arrived unannounced, claiming Croatia was preventing the
return of Serb refugees.
Asked to comment on an announcement of the centre for the protection
of the Homeland Defence War dignity about holding a rally on
November 24 protesting against the arrival of Yugoslav President
Vojislav Kostunica to the Zagreb Summit, Pancic said Croatia was a
democratic state in which everybody has the right to express their
disagreement. However, he added, entire Europe was coming to Zagreb
on this occasion, and "the organisers of the protest should know
that".
Asked why he did not meet representatives of the centre in Split,
Pancic said that body did not represent all Croatian Homeland War
soldiers and he had "nothing to discuss with it".
The centre for the protection of the dignity of Croatia's war of
independence has accused the Croatian government of criminalising
the war, following a police investigation resulting in the
apprehension of some veterans suspected of having committed war
crimes against Serb civilians in the central town of Gospic in
1991.
