VIENNA, Nov 15 (Hina) - Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic, who was on a two-day visit to Austria, on Wednesday told reporters in Vienna that the incumbent Croatian Government's objectives were to create conditions for an

VIENNA, Nov 15 (Hina) - Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic,
who was on a two-day visit to Austria, on Wednesday told reporters
in Vienna that the incumbent Croatian Government's objectives were
to create conditions for an increase in the industrial output, a cut
in the unemployment and a rise in foreign investments.
This will be the path toward slashing the jobless rate, which is a
burning issue in Croatia, Fizulic said at a news conference.
Zagreb is planning to sign free trade contracts with Israel,
Turkey, Thailand, Morocco and Singapore so that it can ensure new
markets for the export of Croatian goods, Fizulic added.
He underlined the good economic cooperation between his country and
Austria in the field of the trade and direct investments.
In the first nine months in 2000 the total exchange of goods between
the two countries rose by 4.20 percent in comparison to the same
period in 1999. Croatia's export to Austria climbed by 11.3
percent, while Austrian export rose by 0.6 percent.
Fizulic is expecting the enhancement of the economic cooperation as
Austrian business people show interest in investing in Croatia.
Fizulic and his aides discussed this matter with Austrian Economy
Minister Martin Bartenstein on Tuesday evening and with the
Austrian Chamber of Commerce Vice President Richard Schenz on
Wednesday morning.
The foreign investment in Croatia is the chief topic of a conference
which the European Forum Bank Austria is organising this afternoon.
Over 150 participants, including the Croatian delegation and
Austrian business people and representatives from the banking
sector, will attend that event.
