figures of the general elections held in that country on Saturday.
A spokesman for the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) mission, said on Monday that returns had to date been
processed from 68 out of 164 municipal election commissions.
According to preliminary figures, it is still difficult to draw
concrete conclusions about the final outcome and the division of
seats in parliaments of Bosnia-Herzegovina and its two entities or
in 10 cantonal assemblies in the Croat-Moslem Federation.
Of 321 ballots for the new composition of Bosnia's House of
Representatives in the territory of the federation, the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) has so far mustered 83,000 votes. The
second-placed to date has been the (Moslem) Party of Democratic
Action or SDA with 73,000 votes. They are followed by Social
Democratic Party (SDP) with some 70,000, and the Party for BiH with
56,000 votes.
In the Serb entity 211,000 ballots have so far been counted for the
election of the state parliament.
Of those ballots, 87,000 were given in favour of the Serb Democratic
Party (SDS); the Party of the Democratic Progress (PDP) has won
40,000 and the Party of the Independent Social Democrats (SNSD)
27,000.
As regards the federal (Croat-Moslem) House of Representatives,
the HDZ with 75,000 (out of 322,000 counted ballots) has taken the
lead. The SDA has so far had 71,000 votes, SDP 67,000 and Party for
BiH of Haris Silajdzic 55,000.
Of 210,000 votes in the Republic of Srpska where the new composition
of the people's assembly was elected, the hard-liners SDS has
mustered 77,000, SNSD 37,000, PDP 32,000 while Socialists led by
Zivko Radisic (the Serb member on the Bosnian three-man Presidency)
have gained over 9,000 votes.
As regards the election of the President of the Serb entity, Mirko
Sarovic with 102,000 votes (out of 213,000 counted ballots) has
been leading over Milorad Dodik with 66,000 votes.
According to the OSCE official, those results will considerably be
changed with the counting of other ballots and absentee ballots.
The final results can be expected on 17 November.
