Zlatko Milanovic, director of Zagreb's company for the management of solid waste (ZGOS), said Croatia was facing about nine million tonnes of waste annually, of which hazardous waste accounted for 100,000 tonnes. Another major problem is the control of waste disposal sites, Milanovic said, adding more than one third of communal waste did not end up on waste disposal sites.
