ZAGREB, Nov 3 (Hina) - Culture Minister Antun Vujic and Institute
Open Society president Slavica Singer on Friday signed an agreement
on the establishment of a virtual cultural information centre
called CultureNet Croatia.#L#
The centre would encompass and present on the Internet
all cultural institutions in Croatia, which would exchange
information on cultural and other events.
This would provide a way to promote various cultural topics, and
give cultural employees and artists an opportunity to find
appropriate information and partners for their projects.
The project has been signed for the next three years and will cost
about $300,000, 100,000 for each year.
Minister Vujic said he was satisfied with the agreement and hopeful
cooperation with the Institute Open Society would continue and
develop. Both sides will participate in the financing with
relatively equal amounts, but the culture ministry's share will
include equipment and personnel, he said.
"The project will open Croatia's cultural institutions to the
world," said Singer. She was satisfied the "misunderstandings"
which had plagued relations between her institute and the former
authorities had been cleared.
Deputy Culture Minister Biserka Cvjetincanin stressed the project
was very important within the process of globalisation, for small
cultures especially. "This projects leads into the 21st century,"
she said.
By the end of 2001, CultureNet Croatia plans on establishing a
database comprising Croatian cultural institutions and
associations, as well as an e-mail bulletin providing information
on world conferences, foundations, scholarships, etc.
Plans also envisage establishing links to the web-pages of Europe's
premier culture-related networks and foundations, and starting
work on a calendar of cultural events in Croatia.
