ZAGREB, Oct 31 (Hina) - Croatia will implement a more active policy towards its minority abroad, Croats in neighbouring Yugoslavia in particular, Foreign Minister Tonino Picula said on Monday. Yesterday he received a delegation of the
Democratic Alliance of Croats from Vojvodina, the north Yugoslav province, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. The delegation briefed Picula about the problems encountered in their activities in connection with Croat participation in Vojvodina's politics on the local and provincial level. They also addressed a permanent solution to dual citizenship, increasing Croatia-Vojvodina economic cooperation, achieving cultural autonomy for Croats in Vojvodina, improving the visa regime for the Croat minority travelling to Croatia, and finding a solution to the education system for Croats in Vojvodina. The delegation also spoke about possibilities of return for
Vojvodina Croats who had moved to Croatia or other countries, and
the effect the implementation of the 1996 Croatian-Yugoslav
agreement on the normalisation or relations had on the status of the
Croat minority in Vojvodina.
Croats in Yugoslavia have no legal status yet, while Yugoslavia's
new leadership is not showing the necessary interest in the matter,
representatives of the alliance said.
