RIJEKA, Oct 20 (Hina) - Four witnesses, who were summonsed to testify in investigative proceedings against Tihomir Blaskic and four other Gospic residents accused of war crimes against civilians, failed to appear before the Rijeka
County Court on Friday. Investigating judge Sajonara Culina said two witnesses, who are the relatives of missing Croatian Serb citizens, had justified their non-attendance, whereas the reasons for the non-attendance of the other two were not known. The defence team said they had the information that new documents had been included in the file in this case but they could not say whether those documents contained new or old incriminating evidence. RIJEKA, Oct 20 (Hina) - Four witnesses, who were summonsed to
testify in investigative proceedings against Tihomir Blaskic and
four other Gospic residents accused of war crimes against
civilians, failed to appear before the Rijeka County Court on
Friday.
Investigating judge Sajonara Culina said two witnesses, who are the
relatives of missing Croatian Serb citizens, had justified their
non-attendance, whereas the reasons for the non-attendance of the
other two were not known.
The defence team said they had the information that new documents
had been included in the file in this case but they could not say
whether those documents contained new or old incriminating
evidence. They suppose that this could be a file from the
proceedings conducted against Oreskovic in 1992. "We only know for
sure that those are not documents from the Hague Tribunal,"
attorney Velimir Dosen said.
According to the defence team, Tihomir Oreskovic, first on the
indictment, is in the Zagreb prison infirmary, where he will stay
next week as well due to problems with diabetes.
The investigative proceedings against the Gospic residents charged
with war crimes will continue on Monday, October 23, with the
questioning of new witnesses, mostly relatives of missing Serb
citizens. Also questioned will be a police officer, who was on duty
in the police station in Karlobag in late November 1991, when three
Serbs from Karlobag were abducted only to be found dead several days
later.
Another witness, who was to testify with his identity concealed but
who refused it and decided to testify under his full name, will be
brought to the stand on Thursday.
